The Republic of Panama will be part of a pilot plan, promoted by the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (Ciat), that will allow countries to adapt more expeditiously to global rules regarding taxation in the digital economy.
Raúl Zambrano, Ciat's director of technical assistance, explained, in expanding Panama's participation in this pilot plan, that they are specifically managing a tool to support certain countries in collecting indirect taxes from companies that carry out activities abroad, either by managing them in the cloud or in the tax administration's data centre.
José Luis Galíndez, partner at Galíndez, Medrano y Asociados, recalled that the OECD addresses the challenges of the digital economy as part of its project to combat Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (Beps).
